this is a Fripp influenced drill designed to help develop dexterity in all 4 fingers
consider the following tab in G major with standard 6 string guitar tuning
--------------------------7b-8d-------------------3b-5d----------------------------------
--------------------7b-8c-5a-8c-------------3b-5d----------------------------------------
--------------7b-9d-5a-9d-------------2a-4c-------2a-4c----------------------------------
--------7b-9d-5a-9c-------------2a-4c-------2a-4c----------------------------------------
-7b--9d-5a-9c-------------------------3b-5d----------------------------------------------
-5a--8c-------------------------3b-5d----------------------------------------------------
you'll notice the tab looks unusual in that it has a letter following each number
the letters are used to show which finger should be used for each note ( "a" - first , "b" - second , etc )
this is also a good exercise for string bending, right hand tapping and developing extended fret spans
there are many different alternatives for fingering order in this exercise
theLeft Hand Sequence Diagram in Doc's Drills will help you with this dilemna
